Independent filmmakers and large studios attempting real-time 3D production have faced an architectural dilemma: they must leverage engines built fundamentally for interactive gaming. While game engines offer real-time frame rates, they introduce severe technical debt, including heavy game-logic overhead, steep learning curves, and asset pipelines designed for low-latency streaming rather than pristine cinematic fidelity.
This paper formally introduces a new software category—the Film Engine—pioneered by Stephanie Michaels to solve this fundamental mismatch. We present the architectural blueprint of The Univah Film Engine, built completely from scratch as a native, GPU-accelerated production environment designed specifically for linear storytelling, instant viewport final-pixel rendering, production-ready motion graphics, and real-time visual effects without node-graph fragmentation.
